A Week in Paradise

Last week I took a week away from the office to soak in the sun, sand and clarity in Sint Maarten/ Saint Martin. We booked just 3 days before going, and we were so lucky to find a great spot to unwind and enjoy the last bits of summer.

Thanks to some great recommendations from friends, we found some unbelievable beaches both on the French side and the Dutch side. The Dutch Maho beach was definitely a unique spot, with planes periodically coming in just breathes away from the beach. We also spent sometime at the beach at Mullet Bay, also on the Dutch Side. It is a beautiful spot, but if you are expecting mohito’s and your favourite cocktails, or say, a flushing toilet, this may not be the spot for you.

We spent most of our nights on the Dutch side (majority of French side was closed for the low season until October), and found a very cute little haunt, Bamboo Bernies. Bamboo Bernies is located right by the five-star Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino complex at Maho Bay, where we stayed, so it was a nice little stroll over to the bar. After getting to know the incredibly friendly and fun staff, we came for dinner, and both left full and completely satisfied. If you find yourself on the Dutch side, I recommend this spot! Ask for the cucumber mojito… um, yum.

We were in need of relaxation, but also wanted to make sure we explored the very different sides of the island, so, we rented a Jeep for our adventures to new spots and beaches.

From Phillipsburg to Orient Bay, Anse Marcel back to Maho… we swam, ate, drank and enjoyed every bit of the island. We will be back! Have any additional recommends for our next trip? Tweet me @laurenmarias or let me know in the below comments!
