heART This

In previous posts I spotlighted my friend Beckie DiLeo Ross, a super creative and inspirational teacher at Central Commerce, inner city school.  The work she does with her student is truly remarkable, and her efforts don’t go unappreciated. Her students adore her, and hold dear to their hearts the experiences they have had with her leadership.

This Friday, Beckie and her students have planned an event “heART this” at the Walnut Gallery, 83 Walnut St., Toronto.

May 31st, Walnut Contemporary Gallery will host “heART this”, an event showcasing unique art from inner-city high school students from Central Commerce. HeART this will support “Creative Community Connections” as an Arts Education is the fabric for a future rich in culture and diversity.

Throughout the school year, students have worked directly with creative professionals who have donated their time and expertise to inspire a new generation of artistes. Thanks to the Specialist High Skills Majors Program, students were able to venture outside the classroom to seek inspiration.

Along with a student exhibit, local artists and fashion designers who have worked directly with the students at Central Commerce Collegiate will also be showcasing work, with food from Church Aperitivo Bar.

All percentage of ticket proceeds and vendor sales will go to support Central Commerce’s Arts Programming so that inner-city youth can continue to venture outside the classroom walls and pursue the art of collaboration.

Guests will be treated to fashions by Global Warming Tees + Dutch Blonde.  Walls will be dressed with art created by Alexis Jardin, Jeffrey Robinson, Karim Romero, Sandra Di Leo, Morgan Jones, Ursula McDonnell and Beckie Di Leo.

The show, its music, and entertainment will be provided by Central Commerce and curated by the talented students and local djs who have worked with the CCC DJ Club. With your support, “heART this” would like to continue to cultivate
